Crop PDF pages
Set exact visible page crops by dragging, margins or individual page settings.
Cropping changes the visible page boundary. Content outside it remains in the file and can be recovered; this is not secure redaction.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF and select the physical pages to crop; an empty page selection means all pages.
- Choose millimetres or points. Set the same left, right, top and bottom margins, or switch to per-page settings.
- For an individual crop, draw on the preview or enter its left/top position, width and height. Pages without an individual rectangle use the common margins.
- If you request native text bounds, inspect and correct the suggestion: illustrations can extend beyond the text.
- Create cropped.pdf and check the actual visible result. Keep the original for comparison and do not use cropping to remove confidential information.
On a rotated page with an offset CropBox, choose a visible rectangle 100 pt wide and 120 pt high. The exported visible area must have those dimensions while the original MediaBox and underlying page content remain intact.
Details & limits
Up to 25 MiB input/output and 100 pages; 60 seconds per operation. Encrypted or digitally signed PDFs, XFA, embedded files, active document actions and nonstandard UserUnit scales are unsupported. Checked JPEG and unfiltered/Flate images are supported within decoded-resource limits; no inline images, JPEG 2000, JBIG2 or CCITT. No PDF/A, PDF/UA or signature-validity certification. Crops must stay inside the current visible page and keep a nonempty area. Only the CropBox changes; hidden content remains in the file. The optional suggestion considers native text bounds only, not images or diagrams.
Does cropping permanently remove text outside the visible rectangle?
No. Cropping changes the visible boundary. Text, images, links or form fields outside it remain in the PDF and may become visible again in another workflow. It is not secure redaction. The text-bound suggestion also cannot prove that a margin is empty: inspect graphics and every selected page yourself.
