How to use it

  1. 1Enter fractions or mixed numbers and choose their signs.
  2. 2Choose addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
  3. 3Check the exact reduced answer and operation-specific steps; copy the result.

1/3 + 1/6 = 1/2. 2/3 ÷ 4/5 = 5/6. The negative mixed number −2 1/3 means −(2 + 1/3).

Details & limits

Exact bounded rational arithmetic. Decimal displays may be rounded; denominator zero is invalid.

Is the decimal result exact?

The rational result is exact within the stated input limits. A decimal may be rounded, which is indicated separately. Denominator zero and division by a zero fraction have no valid result.

How this tool works

Addition and subtraction use a common denominator. Multiplication combines numerators and denominators, while division multiplies by the reciprocal. Every result is reduced and shown as an exact fraction, a mixed number and a decimal with any rounding marked. Equal-part diagrams are limited to small denominators and magnitudes so individual parts remain readable.

Enter two fractions and choose an operation. The result updates automatically. For mixed numbers, add the whole part.

First number
For a whole number, enter it as numerator over 1. A minus sign applies to both the whole and fractional part.
Second number
For a whole number, enter it as numerator over 1. A minus sign applies to both the whole and fractional part.

Up to 18 digits per whole-number input. Fractions are calculated exactly; only the decimal display is rounded.
