How to use it

  1. 1Start the test and allow only the microphone you intend to check.
  2. 2Speak at your usual level and observe digital level, history and possible clipping.
  3. 3Optionally record a short sample. Wait for decoding verification, then play it with headphones.
  4. 4Stop device access. Select the report details, review the snapshot and copy or download the checked report.

A digital sine wave with peak amplitude 0.5 has approximately −9.03 dBFS RMS. This is a synthetic reference, not a microphone quality grade.

Details & limits

Explicit microphone permission. Sampled 2,048-sample windows, at most 10 observations/s. Optional recording up to 10 seconds / 5 MiB. Local session only; no acoustic calibration or call-app guarantee.

Does a visible signal mean my microphone works in every meeting app?

It establishes that this browser received samples. Other apps can use different devices, permissions and processing. Verify your selected input in the actual meeting app.

What this check measures

The browser reports digital sample levels. Quiet periods, missing observations and possible clipping have distinct explanations. Processing settings and input gain affect these values. A successfully decoded recording is not a physical microphone calibration. Recording is optional, bounded to ten seconds and cleared when access ends or the page is hidden.

— dBFS RMS

Start the test and speak at your usual meeting volume.

2,048 samples per observation, at most 10 observations/s; history shows the last 30 observations. dBFS is digital level, not sound pressure. Below −60 dBFS indicates a very low sample; samples at or above 0.99 full scale are counted as possible clipping. These are reference levels, not a device diagnosis.

Observed windows: 0 · Possible clipping windows: 0

Listen to a short recording

Up to 10 seconds / 5 MiB in memory. The recording is decoded and checked before it is offered. Playback starts only when you press Play. Use headphones to avoid feedback.
