Calculate a file’s SHA-256 checksum. Compare two files or check a trusted expected hash locally, without uploading their contents.

How to use it
- Choose the file you want to check.
- Optionally select a second file or paste an expected SHA-256 checksum from a trusted source.
- Calculate, read the comparison and copy or download the checksum if needed.
Example: The bundled example files both contain exactly abc. Despite different filenames, both produce SHA-256 starting ba7816bf8f01cfea.
Details & limits
Up to two files, each at most 50 MiB. SHA-256 only; expected values need exactly 64 hexadecimal characters. HTTPS and browser cryptography support are required.
Does a matching checksum prove a file is safe?
No. It checks file bytes, not whether the content is trustworthy or free of malware. Comparing against a checksum is useful only when the expected value comes from a trusted source. Visually identical documents may have different bytes and therefore different checksums.
