Choose editable output if someone needs to continue filling in the form.
Illustrative example. Flattening removes form interactivity; it is not a tamper-proofing guarantee. PDF scripts and calculations are not run. A flat scan does not become an interactive form by filling it.
How to use it
- Load a PDF or use the synthetic seven-field form.
- Enter text and select listed values. Required fields are marked; read-only values stay unchanged. Show each field on its source page.
- Choose the font size for changed text. Review long or multiline input and use undo/redo if needed.
- Keep the editable export by default, or explicitly select permanent field flattening. A flat source instead opens the visible labeling editor.
- Create the checked PDF, inspect the actual output preview, download it and reopen it in your PDF reader.
Change Müller Zürich to Anna Müller, enter a two-line note, choose Alpha and select Green. The read-only reference 000042 must remain unchanged. Editable output keeps its fields; flattened output has no widgets or field tree.
Details & limits
Local PDF processing: 25 MiB, 100 pages, 200 fields/additions and 4,000 characters per field; 60 seconds per operation. Encrypted, digitally signed, XFA and scripted PDFs or embedded files are rejected. Embedded images support checked JPEG and unfiltered/Flate pixels, up to 8,192 px per side; no inline images, JPEG 2000, JBIG2 or CCITT. Large expanded resources can be rejected. Up to 500 widgets and 50 options per field. Changed field appearances support Western European characters, including umlauts. Overlong text is rejected rather than silently clipped. Source scripts are not run. Flat PDFs use explicitly new visible additions, not detected interactive fields.
Will filling a PDF also run its calculations or make a flat scan interactive?
No. PDF scripts and XFA are unsupported. Check calculated totals independently. A source without fields can receive new visible labels, but those labels are not interactive fields; use Create fillable PDF to author a reusable form.
